At the heart of Tagbilaran City, in Barangay Dampas, progress shines once more as SPC Island Power Corporation (SIPC), a trailblazer in delivering ancillary services in the Visayas region, proudly leads the way with the construction of the Bohol Battery Energy Storage Power Plant (BBESPP)—a state-of-the-art facility located inside the Bohol Diesel Power Plant complex.

With a capacity of 60 megawatt-hours, the BBESPP is designed to stabilize the power grid, support variable renewable energy sources, and deliver ancillary services that reinforce the reliability of the Visayas grid.

Once operational, this facility will supply energy to support the grid’s peak power requirements while continuously providing ancillary services to help maintain system stability. It will respond quickly to grid fluctuations, mitigating power interruptions, brownouts, and voltage or frequency variations. This ensures improved power quality and reliability, benefiting critical facilities such as hospitals, schools, and community centers.

To ensure world-class quality and compliance with local and international standards, SIPC has partnered with Beijing HyperStrong Technology Co., Ltd., China’s leading battery energy storage system (BESS) integrator—ranked among the top global BESS companies—together with China Communication Services Philippines Corporation, an expert in communication and power construction.

For this project, HyperStrong, in collaboration with Shenzhen Hopewind Electric Corporation, will supply state-of-the-art power conversion systems (PCS) and medium-voltage systems. The technology employed is the latest liquid-cooled 5 megawatt-hour HyperBlock series, featuring an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) that utilizes an AI-powered platform.

This collaboration underscores SIPC’s commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability. Beyond its technical benefits, the project will stimulate local economic growth through job creation and investment opportunities in the renewable energy and energy storage sectors.

Ultimately, this project is dedicated to the province of Bohol and its people, who have hosted the BDPP for over 47 years. SIPC is proud to continue its commitment to the City of Tagbilaran and the province of Bohol—enhancing power security and reliability to support the growth and development of the community.

In collaboration with the people of Bohol, SIPC is confident in the successful operation of the BBESPP project toward a sustainable energy future.
