The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGB) opened to public bidding for the acquisition of theProvincial Waterworks System(PWS) sometime in 1998 adopting a scheme under the “Join Venture to Rehabililtate-Own-Operate and Maintain the PWS” where Salcon Consortium won the bidding. The ” Join Venture” scheme in water services is the first of  its kind in the Philippines initiated by the PGB on condition that the PGB owns 30% share  of stock and 70% by Salcon Consortium. Through an Accession Agreement on August 28,2000, the Special Purpose Company wad created, the BOHOL WATER UTILITIES, INC.(BWUI)a company duly incorporated and registered with the Securities Exchange Commission(SEC) and was organized primarily to provide sufficient,safe and potable water within the service area. BWUI acquired  the rights to all legal assets,franchise,water rights,water permits and obligation of the Consortium in contemplation of and pursuant to the Join Venture Agreement (JVA) between the Consortium and the PGB. BWUI finally took over the operation and maintenance of the whole PWS on December 28, 2000.

To meet the increasing water demand, assure equitable distribution of water and reach-out more water consumers in the service area, BWUI had undertaken major rehabilitation activities such as Reconfiguration of the whole service area into 4 clusters, Rehabilitation,revamping and expansion of transmission mains, distribution pipeline and laterals,Rehabilitation and upgrading of 21 units pumpings stations, Drilling of new wells,Installation of additional reservoirs with capacity ranging from 700 cubic meters to 1,000 cubic meters, Provision of automatic backwash filtration equipment and chlorine dosing pumps and other facilities for the efficient operation and services of the PWS.

BWUI commitment is to provide 24-hr water supply within the service area and expand services to the nearby municipalities through bulk water supply arrangement.
